Geothermal Heating & Cooling
Fifty-five degrees down there.
Every season, no exceptions.
Six feet under your yard, the ground holds steady at about 55°F all year, warmer than the winter air, cooler than the summer air.
A geothermal heat pump just moves that heat where you need it. Nothing is burned, nothing runs out.
Winter air 32°F Summer air 98°F
GEOTHERMAL 101
Geo-exchange. Ground source. Geothermal.
Same system, three names.
All three terms describe the same equipment: a heat pump connected to a loop of pipe buried in your yard. If someone uses these words interchangeably, they're not confusing you, they're talking about one thing.
Not a geothermal power plant. A power plant taps the molten core of the earth to generate electricity. That's a different industry entirely. What we install taps the top few feet of soil in your yard, no lava, no drilling for energy production, just a loop of pipe at a steady temperature.HOW IT WORKS
Heat isn't created here. It's relocated.
See which direction the heat travels, and why the loop water comes back a different temperature than it left.
Winter Operation
The ground gives up its heat.
Water in the ground loop absorbs heat from the soil and carries it to the indoor heat pump. The heat pump pulls that warmth out and pushes it through your vents. The water heads back into the ground cooler than when it arrived, ready to pick up more.
Summer Operation
Your home gives up its heat instead.
The heat pump pulls heat out of the air inside your home, leaving cool air behind to circulate through your vents. That collected heat gets rejected into the ground loop, so the water leaves warmer than it comes back.
THE EQUIPMENT
Two pieces. That's the whole system.
No boiler, no furnace, no outdoor condenser baking in the sun. A geothermal system comes down to what's inside your house and what's buried outside it.
Indoors: The Heat Pump
A single indoor unit that replaces your furnace and air conditioner. It extracts heat from, or rejects heat into, the loop water and moves conditioned air through your existing ductwork.
Underground: The Ground Loop
A closed loop of durable pipe buried in your yard, vertically or horizontally depending on your lot. Water circulates through it, trading heat with the earth 365 days a year.
We install it, service it, and stand behind it.
